The north side, which is important for the city's appearance, remains unchanged. In addition to the entrance, the new building provides barrier-free access and exhibition spaces with different characteristics. As a new part of the ensemble, "Janus" meets all technical and operational requirements of a modern, year-round museum operation and thus enables the existing buildings to exist as authentic witnesses of their time.

Through the zenithally lighting and vertical permeability of the new building, the contrast inside the ensemble is deliberately large. This facilitates orientation within the ensemble on the one hand, and on the other hand, the recognizability of the new building makes the threshold to the old much more conscious - entering the existing buildings becomes an experience-rich journey into the past.
